Australian Ethical Investment Big Canberra Bike Ride

Held on Canberra Day, 21 March 2007

It was wet and so eventually were most of the Pedal Power volunteers who turned up, and like a well-oiled machine made the Australian Ethical Investment Big Canberra Bike Ride a success ---again.

Despite a very threatening sky, over 700 riders turned up to ride the course and many returned after completing the course saturated, to collect their certificates and patronise the food tent and talk about their experiences.

Thank you's

A very big “thank you” to all those who turned up in the dark at 6.30am to set up the start/finish site, staff the registrations, which were as usual rushed just prior to the start, the traffic marshals with their lolly-pops and those who brought equipment and took it away again.  The bike museum set up a display of bikes, which unfortunately didn’t get the attention it deserved due to the conditions.

Thanks to Minister John Hargreaves for braving the rain to start the event, John Smith from Smith Cycles who again donated a bike to be won and Hammer and Cycle for a deluxe lighting set.  Thanks also to the cycle shops who again supported the event by provided prizes.  Australian Ethical Investment were not only our major sponsor, but they stayed until the last rider was in handing out achievement certificates to finishing riders with great enthusiasm.

We were fortunate in getting good media coverage on WIN, the Canberra Times and also a radio interview with Pedal Power's Tony Shields added to the coverage.

Thanks once again for a great job, performed with great spirit and teamwork.
